Certification Ratings

Certification Rating 

A certificate rating is an essential and necessary requirement to take into consideration when producing a film or movie. It provides the public with the knowledge that the feature may contain media which could be considered to violent or unsuitable for children.

 The various numbers and letters featured in the different colour circles are all chosen by the 'BBFC' the British Board of Film Classification. They are not a government run organization but rather an organization that looks after the welfare of the public relating to media. They decide what is and isn't suitable for people of certain ages to view. 

The age ratings include:

Uc- This means suitable for anyone at any age

U- This means that it is suitable for any children

PG- This is parent guardian is advised to be present 

12A- This advises that only people over the age of 12 should view it 

12- This is a strong warning that only people 12 or over should see it 

15- This strongly advises that only people 15 or over should see it 

18- This is very strong language and violence heavy 

R18- Only certified adults should view the feature

After our lesson on this and our collaboration effort, we came to the conclusion that our features opening scene was to be certified as a 12 A. This is due to the fact that our feature would become far to complicated to produce if we wanted it to be professional and effective. Our chosen genre is Action and within the action genre, typically the age ratings tend to range from 12 A and above. As our project is only and opening scene, we aren't going to have to much violence and intense scenes but rather take a more psychological approach.

Through this various research into the different certification ratings, we have come to the conclusion that our opening scene will be a 12 A. This is due to the fact that the feature will posses elements of dark psychological action sequences whilst also not obtaining too many explosions and individual ideologies that would result in the opening scene being a higher rating. In addition, this certification will be the most easy to replicate as it will allow us to include our ideas revolving dark psychology and both action.
