A guide to Final Cut Pro X

Final cut pro is a Apple based editing software which allows you to professionally and efficiently edit pictures and video and be able to use them together to create various projects. The programme contains multiple features which allows the user to different effects and features to be able to achieve the desired outcome. Throughout the course of both my AS and A2 media, I am going to be required to use this programme to effectively finish my coursework to a professional standard.

At the start of the project, you will need to create a new event (meaning project) and this will allow you to start a fresh piece of work. You will have to do this for every piece of new work you do. This will enable you to insert different types of media into your project such as pictures and videos for example. You can start a new event by going to 'file' in the top left hand corner and then click new and finally event.

You will then be presented the task of importing your own media into the new template given, and then the programme will then adapt to which ever type of media you have selected. Just like the previous step to create a new event, you will have to go to file then import, to select and import your media to the event. Once you have completed this you will see the chosen media at the bottom which will then be able to be edited from that point onwards.

Perhaps one of the most useful and beneficial features is the crop tool. This crop tool allows the user to decide whether the video clip should be shorter to include only the necessary sections of the clip or to cut (crop) out the unwanted material. To do this all you have to do is is click on the intended media to crop and then click the drop down arrow located on the bottom left of the image box.

Also various transitions and sound effects can be added to provide additional impact to the project and perhaps provide suspense depending on what style of project you are going to do. To input any additional sound to the project other than the medias original sound is easy. All you have to do is scroll over to the music icon which is clearly displayed in the right of the page; click the icon and multiple sound options will appear which are free to use. Once you have decided on the music or sound, just click and drag it under the desired spot on the timeline. In addition this method is the same for transitions also.
